EWC Student Newspaper Wins Award

Torrington (EWC) -- The Eastern Wyoming College student newspaper, The Lancer Post, has won a second place award in the American Scholastic Press Association’s annual newspaper competition.

“You have a good school newspaper, which shows the talent of your reporters, writers, photographers, layout designers and advisor. Congratulations to all on your Second Place award,” were the words of the judges in a letter to the staff.

Judging was based on content coverage, page design, general plan, art, advertising, illustrations, editing and creativity.

The Lancer Post achieved 120 of 120 possible points on art, advertising and illustrations, and 45 of 55 possible points in creativity. Perfect scores were achieved in presentation of original material, proofreading and layout.

Issues judged were those from Fall, 2007. Each college was required to submit two full issues, plus columns, photos, and specialized stories in designated areas from any issue printed during the 2007 calendar year.

“With only five issues available, we were limited in choices for submission,” said Angie Babcock, sponsor. “I am proud of these students, of whom all but one were on the staff for the first time. Their achievement indicates their hard work.”

Staff members for Fall, 2007, were Danielle Bonde, P.J. Chavez, Andrew Davis, and Sara Foster, all of Torrington; Winston Harris, of Brush, CO, and MacKenzie Johnston of Milburn, NE .

The Lancer Post was on hiatus during Spring, 2007.
